ECU alumni killed in Orlando shooting….R.I.P. Shane

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – An East Carolina University graduate is one of the victims in Sunday’s massacre in Orlando.

Shane Tomlinson was added to the list of those killed this morning.

The university says Tomlinson graduated from ECU in December 2003 with a bachelor degree in communications. The 33-year-old is lead singer in an Orlando-based band, Frequency Band.

“We are saddened to learn that one of our own was killed in this tragedy in Orlando,” said Chancellor Steve Ballard. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Shane’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Dr. Virginia Hardy, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, said, “Today, we mourn the loss of Shane Tomlinson and all of those impacted in this senseless tragedy. While gone way too soon, Shane and his family are forever in the hearts of the Pirate Nation.”

Fifty people were killed in the nation’s worst mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub. The gunman, Omar Mateen, was killed by police in an exchange of gunfire.

So far, the names of 33 victims have been released
